Photos: Nigerian refugee gives birth on board ship after rescue in the Mediterranean Sea, name him 'Favour'

A Nigerian woman identified as Cynthia gave birth aboard a rescue ship, Aquarius, off the coast of Libya at 1. 50pm on Sunday, December 11th, after she was rescued along with other migrants on Saturday night from a wooden boat.

She named the boy, who weighed about 6.8lbs, Favour. Both the child and the mother are healthy and doing well.

Around 36 people were thought to be on the wooden boat, which was located in the Mediterranean, 12 miles off the coast of Libya.

They were rescued by Médecins Sans Frontières, a medical organisation, and SOS Mediterranee France, a rescue organisation. MSF Sea, the rescue branch of the medical organisation, described the boat as 'toy like'.

"We are shocked every time we see one of these big wooden boats. It's a miracle everyone survived."
