Judge Neil Gorsuch should not accept a stolen Supreme Court seat
To
the editor: Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), the Judiciary Committee's
ranking Democrat, should ask Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch one
question at his hearings: Do you believe it is ethical for a justice to
receive stolen property, in this case a seat that President Obama had
the constitutional right to fill? (“When the GOP stole Merrick Garland's
Supreme Court seat, they set the stage for a miserable battle,”
editorial, Jan. 31) As a civil rights and criminal defense attorney, I
know that in criminal law, the defendant who knowingly receives stolen
property is just as guilty as the defendants who stole it. Any ethical
judge should decline this seat until Merrick Garland, Obama's choice,
