Mariah Carey is sending mixed messages about her recent broken engagement with James Packer.
In
two new promos from her upcoming reality show, which premieres Dec. 4
on E!, the Australian billionaire has been erased from footage, which
was shot when they still planned to be mister and missus. While
Packer was featured in the original teaser trailer (which has since been
made private
on YouTube), he’s been cut from the two new promos that were released
yesterday. It remains to be seen how much Packer will appear in the
actual show, which was supposed to be how Mariah was balancing a tour
and planning a wedding.Further, Mimi’s supposed romance with backup dancer Bryan Tanaka is
suddenly a big plot point. In the clip, Mariah is seen pouring a glass
of champagne down Tanaka’s chest. In another, he’s with her — and her
kids — on a safari adventure.
However, that seems to be all for the cameras because, according to reports, including one from Entertainment Tonight, there is no romance. They are “just friends.”
What
we do know is that Mariah wants to keep us guessing. While she hasn’t
commented on the fact that the twins, Roe and Roc, 5, will soon be
getting a half-sibling (Nick Cannon’s ex-girlfriend is pregnant with his child), she did post an Instagram photo in which she’s wearing a massive diamond ring on that finger.And that massive diamond ring looks just like the 35-carat diamond worth a reported $10 million that Packer gave her when he proposed in January – and she reportedly got to keep, per their separation agreement, when they split in October after a blowup during their vacation in Greece.
Mariah’s Instagram followers noticed the ring too (how can you miss it?) and urged her to lose the bling:

“Girl you need to stop what you are doing and look at yourself.”
The
truth is, none of this — the breakup, the rumored dalliance with the
dancer, or wearing the ring — will hurt the ratings of her docuseries.
Fans will tune in for the “real story” — though, as we’ve learned,
there’s often not a lot of “real” in reality TV.
