Two in court for beating man over N5, 000 debt

Dutse- Alhaji (Abuja) – The police on Friday arraigned two men in a Dutse- Alhaji Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, for allegedly beating a man over N5, 000 debt.
The accused persons, Mike Adamu, 21 and Gideon Haruna, 24, both security guards in FCDA Quarters Bwari, are facing a four-count charge of criminal conspiracy, criminal force, assault and causing hurt.
When the charges were read, the accused persons, however, pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, PC Monalisa Nor told the court that one Daniel Ibrahim of the same address, reported the matter at the Bwari Police Station on July 24.
She said that the accused persons brought a uniformed soldier to the complainant’s house, who beat him up with a belt, stick and also kicked him.
Nor said that during police investigation, the duo confessed to the crime, adding that Ibrahim was owing them N5,000.
According to her, the accused persons, however, refused to disclose the identity of the soldier.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened the provisions of sections 96, 263, 264 and 240 of the Penal Code.
Presiding Judge Ado Ahmed granted the accused persons bail and adjourned the case till Aug.18 for hearing.
